A wave of arrests of illegal immigrants across the United States has occurred over the last week by officials including 110 arrests in the Florida area alone.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted five-day raids on areas in Florida and Texas last week, arresting 194 people on immigration violations and other charges.
According to ICE, 81 of the arrested had already received final orders of deportation and had gone into hiding and 24 had criminal histories including drug possession and sexual battery.
“While we are a welcoming country, we expect those wanting to immigrate here to do so in a safe, legal, and orderly manner,” said ICE official Michael Rozos. “We will conduct these targeted fugitive operations to ensure that removal orders are carried out and locate these immigration violators who potentially pose a threat to public safety.”
During the same week, ICE officals raided 18 cities around the Dallas, Texas area and arrested 84 people on illegal immigration and other charges. Of the arrests, 64 had already received final orders of deportation according to ICE.
An additional 31 people were arrested in Bakersfield, California on immigration charges that same week by ICE officals, but those arrests do not appear to be part of the five-day raids.
