Fewer Illegals Results in Better Naturalization

Immigrants coming into the U.S. are becoming more naturalized in their new country, statistics released this week have indicated.
According to U.S. census data, one million illegal immigrants left the country between August 2007 and May 2008, reports the LA Times.
Steven Camarota, spokesperson for the Center for Immigration Studies, said that the departure of illegals - who may have lower levels of education and income - could be responsible for those in the country legally becoming more Americanized.
Furthermore, it was revealed that fewer than nine percent of people now class themselves as limited English speakers, with evidence of more bilinguality as newcomers learn English but continue to teach their children their native language.
California currently has the largest proportion of immigrant residents, with 27 percent of the population originating from elsewhere, the San Francisco Chronicle attests.
Earlier this month, it was reported by OpEdNews.com that the economic difficulties currently being experienced by the U.S. are prompting illegal immigrants from Mexico to return home in their thousands due to fewer job opportunities.
